Zoning Hearing Board

Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM when applications are submitted for consideration.

The Zoning Hearing Board is made up of three members with two alternate members each serving for a three year term.

The Zoning Hearing Board is a quasi-judicial agency appointed by the Board of Supervisors. It hears cases on applications submitted by parties seeking variances or special exceptions of the zoning ordinance and also hears appeals of the zoning officer’s determinations. The Zoning Hearing Board cannot interpret the zoning ordinance but merely uphold the letter of the law. Criteria for the granting of variances and special exceptions are found in the state Municipalities Planning Code and Township Zoning Ordinance. An appeal of the Zoning Hearing Board’s decision can only be heard through the Court of Common Pleas of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Applications for cases to be heard by the Zoning Hearing Board may be received from the Township office and are accepted on an open schedule. An initial application fee is required per the Township Fee Schedule. A hearing will be scheduled within 60 days of receipt and acceptance of a completed application. Please be aware that per state law, notices of the hearing will be sent to neighboring property owners, published in the newspaper and the effected property by the hearing will be posted.
