Upon request of several concerned citizens, the Board of Supervisors created a Memorial Committee to establish criteria and design a permanent memorial with which to honor West Lampeter Township residents who had contributed to the benefit of life through service to their community. Known as the West Lampeter Township Emergency Services/Community Services Memorial, the Committee is now in the process of funding the project, hoping to raise $25,000 from interested individuals, businesses and service organizations. Nominations for the memorial can be made by individuals or service organizations. Nominees meeting the criteria will be approved by the Township Manager and the Board of Supervisors. Recommendations for nominations must be in writing, signed by the person making the nomination and each must contain most or all of the following criteria for the person being nominated: · The nominee’s involvement and depth of service in the emergency services organization he or she served in West Lampeter Township. · The nominee’s special contribution which resulted in the growth or improvement of the organization that the person served. · Nominee will be given consideration for any extra service outside of normal boundaries the nominee contributed to various groups or organizations within the Township. · Nominee’s long-term commitment to service and improvement of community life. · Nominee’s daily practices while service the community (i.e., diligently answering calls for service, taking appropriate action, etc.). · Ethical conduct: nominee consistently carried himself or herself in an ethical manner which exemplified moral courage and integrity. · Dependability: nominee always accepted and carried out regular and special assignments. · Knowledge of emergency services: nominee expressed an exemplary understanding of the emergency service organization he or she served, and was eager to improve personal knowledge and job skills related to the emergency services of the community. · Leadership/attitude: nominee is a person of high morale with a positive mental outlook and an attitude that inspired others in the community, lead by example, and had the willingness to do the right thing, even if the action was unpopular. · Dedication and loyalty: the person being nominated must exhibit dedication and loyalty to his or her organization at all times. · Nominee performed a courageous or heroic act in the line of duty, putting aside his or her personal self-interest to serve or save others from harm or serious injury. · Nominee will have been a resident of West Lampeter Township or will have been employed by or served a West Lampeter Township service organization. General donations for the project from individuals, businesses and organizations are always welcome. Please contact the Township Manager, Dee Dee McGuire, at (717) 464-3731 for more information.
