The West Lampeter Township Police Department enforces all violations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code as well as Township Ordinances. It is the objective of this Department to promote highway safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists within our Township by continually working towards the reduction of both accident and injury of all persons traveling our roadways. Under the command of Lt. Jeremy Schroeder, our officers take a pro-active approach towards highway safety through coordinating and conducting ongoing traffic safety and speed enforcement initiatives, DUI checkpoints, bicycle safety programs, and seat belt/child safety initiatives. Our police vehicles are fully equipped and include electronic speed timing devices that are calibrated on a regular basis for performance and accuracy. Through participation in state-sponsored Safe Communities grants, we take every opportunity to work toward safe travel upon our roadways. The West Lampeter Township Police Department places high priority on the enforcement of traffic laws. Heavy traffic volumes utilize West Lampeter Township roadways as a primary means of north and south travel through Lancaster County and, as an unfortunate result, traffic accidents do occur. Our officers are trained to respond to and investigate these accidents, having obtained Advanced Accident Investigation Training and Certification in accident reconstruction. We also serve on a multi-jurisdictional crash team in the investigation of serious or fatal accidents occurring throughout Lancaster County. Our Patrol Officers are trained in the use of DUI Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, and our Department continues to keep pace with the frequent changes in Pennsylvania case law regarding DUI in order to effectively prosecute offenders of this crime within Constitutional boundaries.
